Summer prep for your Locks!

Chlorine, salt, and natural lake sediment wreak havoc on your hair, so before you take the plunge, pre-wash and condition. It may sound weird to shower before getting in the water, but allowing your hair to soak up fresh, filtered water prevents it from absorbing the harmful properties of chlorine or salt. After stepping out of the shower (or f...rom under the hose!) spray in or comb through a leave-in conditioner to further hydrate your locks. I love It's a 10 leave in conditioner!
Lighten up
Summer is the time to let your hair go a couple shades lighter—but remedies like lemon juice and hydrogen peroxide can increase dryness and breakage. To avoid this, I suggests applying a mixture of lemon juice and conditioner on your dampened hair. This allows the sun to lighten up those roots while keeping your hair moisturized!
Rehab Your Hair
When you officially retire from beach bummin’ for the day, make sure to hop in the shower and start rehabbing your hair! I suggests using a restorative shampoo, such as Kevin Murphy's Born Again Wash, which removes chemicals and helps rebuild your hair’s fibers.
Fight Frizz
The summer humidity can make your straight hair go frizzy in a matter of minutes! I prevent this by using a good moisturizing cream-based product. Put a little dollop of the product in your hands and run your fingers through your hair, spreading the product evenly throughout your locks. This is a great way to tame the frizzes while adding moisture back in your hair!

KEEP YOUR HAIR SHINY & HEALTHY
Hair Color Care Tips

At least two days post-dye job, you shouldn't wash your hair. When you do wash it, steer clear of clarifying or deep cleansing formulas, as well as dandruff products, which will strip your hair of dye pigments.

Between color treatments and touch-ups, opt for Matrix's Shade Memory. These shampoos and conditioners will refresh your color by removing luster-busting buildup, without being so harsh that they dull your shade. Add major Shine
To make your new hue look even more vibrant, try a clear gloss treatment!

DAILY STYLING

Lay Off the Blow Dryer

Heat styling can rough up the hair cuticle, dulling your color. Using a tourmaline or ceramic blow dryer will produce negative ions helping smooth the cuticle while you style.

Use the right brush

Finding the right brush can shine and prevent fading- a must for colored hair, especially if you heat style. If your creating a sleek style, use a paddle brush. These aren't good for layered hair. If you are trying to create volume, you best bet is to use a round natural bristle brush.
Seal in color

Using a leave in conditioner will act like a sealant, keeping in the moisture that makes hair vibrant!

Keep Hair Strong
To prevent your hair from split ends, it's always a good idea to get a trim and deep conditioning and or gloss treatment at Shear Heaven Hair Salon once a month.

Tip: I advise eating proteins like fish and nuts to keep your hair healthy! This will enhance your hair's strength and prevent breakage.
